The Foundational Years
North Pacific Research Board: The Foundational Years tells the story of the development of NPRB since the organization was created in 2002. Our mission is to build a clear understanding of the North Pacific, Bering Sea, and Arctic Ocean ecosystems that enables effective management and sustainable use of marine resources.
The 288-page book describes the scientific foundations of NPRB and synthesizes funded research in the areas of lower trophic levels, fish habitat, fishes and invertebrates, seabirds, marine mammals, humans / local and traditional knowledge, and other prominent issues. It is fully indexed, both by topic and by specific research project.
Appendices
Also included are detailed appendices about the "nuts and bolts" of NPRB -- Board and committee members over the years, policies, how Requests for Proposals have changed over the years, and more. This information appears only in the Foundational Report and will not be included in future annual reports, which will focus more on funded projects.
