Science Fair

To inspire students to learn more about Alaska’s seas and to pursue science, NPRB sponsors special awards each year at the Alaska State Science and Engineering Fair. 

The awards go to students in elementary, middle school and high school whose projects focus on the marine sciences. Prizes included cash awards, an NPRB calendar, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward.

2009 Winners

sebastian middlestadt Sebastian Quin Szweda Middlestadt, first grade, Girdwood K-8, for Tidal Power vs. Indian Creek. Elementary Award ($50)
kendall masten Kendall Masten, Kotzebue Middle School, for Where's the Salt? Middle School Award ($75)
kelsey meacham Kelsey Meacham (with NPRB Science Director Francis Wiese), 9th grade, West High School, Anchorage for Cook Inlet: Correlation between Air Temperature Trends and Intra-seasonal Sea Ice Extent Variability. High School Award ($100)

Kelsey received the NPRB middle school award in 2008, and will compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Reno, Nevada.
