Congress created The North Pacific Research Board in 1997 to recommend marine research projects to the US Secretary of Commerce, who makes final funding decisions. NPRB administers research sub-awards with funds made available to the Secretary of Commerce from the Environmental Improvement and Restoration Fund. These funds provide for Federal, State, private and foreign organizations or individuals to conduct research activities for cooperative marine research projects and activities on, or relating to, the fisheries or marine ecosystems in the North Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska and Arctic Ocean as set forth at 43 U.S.C. §1474d. Program Support Specialist: North Pacific Research Board

The North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) seeks an energetic, organized, creative, and intellectually curious individual to join our small staff of professionals, all of whom are passionate about marine science. We are committed to providing excellent support for the researchers NPRB funds, the broader community of those who rely on marine science, and the hard-working board and panel members and 100s of volunteers who sustain the organization’s work.

Primary Responsibilities. Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Program Support Specialist is responsible for providing executive level administrative assistance to the Executive Director, and administrative and program support assistance to four other staff members: the Science Director, two Program Managers, and the Communications and Outreach Director.

The Program Support Specialist is responsible for a wide array of office management, administrative assistance, and program support for the staff, the board, and the science and advisory panels of NPRB. The Program Support Specialist also assists NPRB project principal investigators (PIs) and Graduate Student Research Award recipients, and performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The Program Support Specialist is responsible for providing administrative assistance to NPRB staff, board and panels. These duties cover administrative, operational and program support tasks of average or above average complexity, or they may be a part or segment of a more complex project or program.
