This 2002 symposium focused on sustainability of changing marine ecosystems. It provided an overall picture of the status and trends of Alaska’s marine resources and ecosystems and opportunities to discuss ecosystem-based management needs.
Since 2003, the Alaska Marine Science Symposium has assembled scientists working on myriad marine ecosystems issues concerning the waters off Alaska, as well as on the people in communities bordering those waters who make their living from the sea.
The Board also works through the Consortium for Ocean Leadership to encourage efforts to advance knowledge and learning in the science of oceanography and to disseminate knowledge to the scientific community and public, particularly as it relates to the North Pacific and marine areas off the coast of Alaska.
