Workshops
January 2007 | Alaska Marine Science Symposium Public Workshop
A workshop on the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) Integrated Ecosystem Research program (IERP) was held to coincide with the Alaska Marine Science Symposium.
Workshop Goals
- provide an overview of the GOA IERP Implementation Plan to the science community;
- initiate focused multidisciplinary collaborations among individuals, institutions, and agencies addressing one or more of the management issues; and
- solicit ideas and feedback on potential hypotheses, process studies, and approaches for addressing one or more of the listed management issues.
February 2007 | Climate Effects in the Gulf of Alaska Large Marine Ecosystem
Held in Juneau, this workshop built on the results of a similar meeting held for the California Current Ecosystem in November 2006. Workshop participants addressed:
- efforts at the NPRB to address fishery management issues through integrated ecosystem research;
- the need for coordination of climate and ecosystem monitoring and data dissemination between Alaska, Canada and the west coast Regional Associations of the Integrated Ocean Observing System; and
- the emerging consensus that single-species management must expand to include awareness of all elements of an ecosystem, including climate forcing.
