Feast your eyes on these beauties! Diatoms and microzooplankton are part of the very basis of the food chain in the Gulf of Alaska and are being analyzed through microscopy in Suzanne Strom's lab at Western Washington University. Most diatoms are single-celled critters and are part of a major group of algae that feeds the rest of the ocean system. Aren't they lovely?
